Basketball Defense Training for Grade School, Middle & High School Players in Bergen County, New Jersey

Basketball Defense Training for Teens and Youth

Legendary college basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski defined defense as "one man guarding the ball and four others helping him". While many players think that defense solely consists of one-on-one matchups, playing proper defense is all about a group effort. Playing solid defense leads to more scoring opportunities in transition and with players pursuing offensive and defensive rebounds, increased chances of victory. At Clutch Basketball Training, coach Justin Iton trains young players to effectively guard on defense. Ladder drills, defensive stances, and defensive slides are all part of the basketball defense training at our Bergen County, New Jersey academy.

Justin coaches young children interested in basketball as well as high school players. Emphasizing Basketball Defense Training & Ladder Drills to Improve Overall Movement Efficiency

Agility ladder drills are an essential tool in a basketball defensive training arsenal. The drills challenge players’ to change directions quickly, and improve footwork speed, agility, and coordination. It is why they are also called agility ladder drills and speed ladder drills.

With our basketball training, your child will practice various ladder drills, including:

  • Two Feet In, One Feet Out
  • Two Feet In, Two Feet Out
  • Lateral Two Feet In, Two Feet Out
  • Single-Foot Hop

Drills are conducted in small player groups, which allows Justin to ensure that each player is getting the techniques right. Once the mechanics are clear, speed will follow. Whether your child is just starting out or he or she is a high school student on their school’s basketball team, ladder drills will help them become a more effective defensive player.

Helping Players Hone Basic Basketball Defense Skills, Including Defensive Stances and Slides

When well-executed, a defensive stance allows the player to react swiftly to offensive player movements, maintain balance and agility, and minimize scoring opportunities for the opposing team. Justin’s basketball defense training includes various defensive stance techniques. Players learn to remain on the balls of their feet, have their hands up and arms away from their sides, and other techniques.

Defensive slides are essential to staying in front of the offensive player. Players practice moving their feet laterally from side to side with one foot leading the other, and other techniques that help with lateral quickness.

As a former collegiate and professional basketball player, Justin imparts his knowledge to your child with the aim of making them an effective defensive player. As well, he works to improve your child’s all-round skills in all positions. As such, Clutch Basketball Training is a one-stop basketball training service providing ball handling drills, basketball finishing drills, basketball shooting drills, and free throws shooting drills.
